Day 4

I woke up feeling a little bit weak, so hopped on my bike and rode straight to the market..  looking for cheap fruit.
bananas: 32c
persimons: 42c
rambutans: 25c

I was hungry so I tried to buy the cheapest things I could.  The persimmons were pretty bad, but still vaguely edible.

I just had a thought...  this plate would cost a lot in Australia..  I wonder how everyone is going there.

Day 3

Day 3

Earlier today I was feeling a bit hungry and kind of dizzy and uncomfortable...  Not any thing serious enough to disturb my equanimity, but it was noticeable.

I didn't get a chance to go to the market until midday, so went 18 hours without eating.  Its amazing how much you notice food when you cant just eat whenever you want.  A few times I have gone to the kitchen just to eat, and then after looking at the fruit bowl and seeing it empty, I remember I am living below the line.

Any way, the dizziness and uncomfort was gone as soon as I ate, so its all good.

Here is todays food:

Mixed vegetables: 90c
sprouted mung beans: 5c

Some may be wondering what kind of a meal I made yesterday with only 2 vegetables, or today with 4.  Well I just eat them each individually, whole, and raw.
I eat the tomato at the same time I eat the green leaves to absorb the iron, but everything else, i just eat it when I want.  Both yesterday and today it has turned out to be about 2 meals (but yesterday I could also snack on my cheap bananas)

I am pretty sure by eating it raw I am getting optimal nutrition.

I planned poorly today and when I got home, I realised I had no fruit.  No fruit in a day is very abnormal for me.  Oh well.

Ha, I just had a thought, I am living raw vegan on less than a dollar a day, and some people think of that as such a gourmet expensive lifestyle...  sweet!

'Live Below The Line' has begun

Live Below The Line

This blog will follow me during this week as I take part in  http://livebelowtheline.com/

Eating below the poverty line.

In Australia, that means living on less than $2 a day, and I checked with the World Bank, and it is equivalent to $1 a day here in Thailand.
On my first day, I hadn't worked out what the Thai equivalent was so I lived WAY BELOW THE LINE... so all I ate was some pineapple and later some beans.

Yesterday as I was walking through the market, and looking at these piles of delicious tropical fruits and bags of them yummiest deserts on earth, the thought occured to me how much I am sacrificing here.   I could be living in pure luxury...  and it is quite affordable to.  Instead I am going hungry, and bartering over 5 cents off the cost of my tomatoes...

It is now day 3, and I have yet to eat or go to the market, but below is a review of day 2:

35c in Bananas
17c Tomatos
35c in greens
10c in Mung beans

I managed to find cheap bananas. I realised if I went to the supermarket, I could hardly eat anything, so I have shopped in the local bulk market.  I recommend people in Australia do the same.

So, that is day 2.

Yesterday, my fundraising efforts recieved a large donation from an anonymous 'old friend'  I have no idea who it was from, but they gave enough to put 1 child through school for 18 months.  Thank you.

I am now only $5 off reaching my goal, which was 2 years worth of schooling.  If you would like to support the project please go to:
